Arrrrgggghhhh!!

I'm starting to get a bit peeved at my foot. Don't get me wrong! I love my foot. I just wish it would start feeling better. Part of my quest for getting into shape involves walking, and then running. Of course, since my feet bear my weight when I walk, or run, or stand, it doesn't get the rest in needs.
I think in high school, a good majority of my Junior and Senior years were spent hobbling around on sprained ankles. As soon as I could bear weight on them, I was running again.

Despite the Eating Holiday...

...I managed to lose weight instead of packing it on. It helped being nearly broke over the past three-day weekend, so I didn't drink beer. Didn't grill out, either. Yard work and housework kept me moving, although I did manage to find the time to stretch out and watch TV. I love "Deadliest Warrior" and "Phineas and Ferb."

Happy Memorial Day!

Okay, I couldn't think of anything better to title this one. It IS Memorial Day, so I guess it's as good a title as any. My grandfather was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He had a chance to go to Vietnam and get promoted to a general, but I think that Korea bummed him out. He never would talk about what he did in Korea, and he spoke very little about the Second World War, although we did find a picture in Life magazine of him in the Pacific, trying to get the Japanese to surrender at Guadalcanal. He was my hero, and he died way too young.

Forget Crop Circles...I Have a Yard Circle!

Today, I finally got my lawnmower started (the gasoline one), and I kept it going for two hours! Now, maybe I watch entirely too much iCarly, but in a Spenser Shea inspired moment, I decided to mow a path to the middle, and then start a circle, mowing outward. It looks pretty cool, IMHO, although the preacher who lives across the street probably is even more worried about me, LOL!

Well, in two hours I think I managed to get probably 75% of the front yard mowed. Partly because I have such a large yard, but also due to the lawn being a couple of feet high in spots. The back yard is even worse. I have dandelions so big that they look like bushes.

Now my mower is sitting out there, waiting for me to go out and finish the front yard. But the question is, will it start? It has a history of running for awhile, and then not running for about 6 weeks. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about fixing lawnmowers. It's probably the frammestat or the whangdoodle, but since I don't know where those parts are or how to change them, I'll probably have to wait another six weeks.

Maybe I should buy a ticket and win the lottery. Then I could buy a riding mower (did I mention I have a big lawn?), and a shed to put it in.

Yesterday Was Odd Animal Day

Yesterday, I wrote about the horses that were out wandering around at dawn. Well, in the afternoon, on the way home, I was driving along and watched as a coyote (those guys aren't that big!) darted across the highway in almost a catlike, stretchy fashion, but with it's tongue lolling out like a dog.

When it go to the other side and trotted toward a wooded area, it had a "happy dog"-looking expression on its face. Almost as if somebody had said, "That's a gooooood doggy!'"

I Coulda Had a Pony Today

I was driving to work early this morning, cruising down the highway and listening to some music, when I saw the silhouette of a horse wandering across the road less than half a mile away. I've seen people riding horses along the highway, and my first thought was that this pony's rider had perhaps fallen off.

As I got closer, a second, a third, and then a whole gang of horses began to mosey across the highway. What little traffic there was (we're talking early morning in a rural area here), came to a stop as we sat patiently, waiting for the horses to continue on their way. They looked like they were up to something and were trying their best to be as nonchalant and inconspicuous as they could be. They didn't even bolt when some impatient doofus started honking, and there were a couple of colts in the bunch.

I don't know where they came from, and I don't know where they were going, but I'll bet their owner was surprised when he eventually found out that his horses had decided to venture forth and explore the eastern part of Payne County, Oklahoma.
